Though it seems as if I am writing this to myself, I can only pray that these words will reach someone who needs to hear them. I pray that God will open the eyes of those who read these words so they can see the truth of God's Word, and that they will invite Christ to be their Lord, Savior, and Friend, and that they will day by day allow God to walk with them through their lives.
I have recently been reading a book by Greg Laurie titled, "Every Day with Jesus." This book has many wonderful lessons, and words of comfort and encouragement. I wanted to take the time to share these with all of you.. I pray they will touch your heart the way they have touched mine.
The Man Who Was God
"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." - Philippians 2:5-8
What we believe about Jesus not only has a profound effect on the way we live today, but seals forever our eternal destiny. It is therefore crucial that we have a clear answer to the question Jesus Himself asked in Matthew 16:15: "Who do you say that I am?"
Walking with the Master - "That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ." - 1 John 1:3
John's wording in the original Greek text is interesting. His phrase "that which we have seen" could be rendered literally, "What we still see in our mind's eye." What John saw was still glowing on the canvas of his mind. What he heard was still ringing in his ears. "Yes," John wants us to know, "I was an eyewitness of Jesus. I was there."
John was privileged to be with Jesus throughout His earthly ministry. We read that he was the one leaning on the Master's chest, taking in His every word, even His whispers. That's the reason he was called "the disciple whom [Jesus] loved" (John 19:26).
It was this same John who said, "That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ." In other words, "Yes, we had the privilege of walking and talking with the Master - but you can know Him in an intimate way just as we knew Him!"
Don't miss the phenomenal promise that John is giving us here. To see the Master - it was not just for a privileged few! All of us can know Him in this deeper sense. All of us have the unbelievable privilege of walking with the Lord of the Universe, of talking with Him daily, of asking Him to guide us, and expecting Him to enter into every facet of our lives.
To find out why it is so important to spend time with Jesus, studying His life and words, read 1 John 2:1-6.
"My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins - and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, "I know God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God's Word truly show how completely they love Him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did."
